This week we are reading the article "Black Blizzard". We have talked about the text structure and it appears to be cause and effect. What are some examples that tell you the text structure is cause and effect? Why do you think writers use text structure to organize their writing? And based on what you know from the videos and the article, how would you explain the Dust Bowl to a friend in the 4th grade?
So far we have read chapters 1-3 in Charlotte's Web. Tell me about what is happening so far. Why did they give Wilbur a stall near the manure? Why did the Wilbur walk up to the fence when the goose was talking to him? Why did he go to the orchard?
This week we are reading about the Monroe Family and how their descendants benefited from the findings of the California Gold Rush. How was life different in the mines from life today? What facts can you gather from reading the article? If you were a child during this time period, how do you think things would be different for you than they are now? Please respond with complete sentences, punctuation, and capitalization. What did Polly realize about her wish and how did get what she asked for in a different way? Do you think Polly has learned her lesson and might change? When does Polly seem to Jug-a-Rum?
Today we finished chapter 3 as a group. I would like you to start your reading time tomorrow by reading Ch.4. Your questions today are :
1. What secret is Lilypromising to keep for Margaret and why is her promise unbelievable ? 2. What inferences can you make as to Lily's attitude towards playing the piano? List details to support your inference? |
